El Grito de Dolores sparked a revolution.
Today, we face fascism, kidnappings, family separation, and rising attacks on Black, Brown, and immigrant communities. We respond with rage, grief, love — and creation.
In the face of silence, we scream.
In the face of violence, we organize.
In the face of destruction, we create.
Our communities are under siege — but solidarity and culture are the ancestral practices that have prepared us for this moment. We’ve got us.
And we will not be erased.

La Sonora is collaborating with artist Edgar Reyes to present EL GRITO—a space of protest and celebration, of mourning and imagining, of resistance through rhythm, print, and community.

About the CURATOR
Edgar Reyes
(b. Guadalajara, Mexico)
is a multimedia artist and professor. Reyes’s work invites viewers to think about the people, places, and connections they carry with them. His practice draws on the specifics of his own life, and reflections of shared experiences of resettlement and migration. Through his art making he explores his family’s Mexican and Indigenous roots.
Reyes's practice confronts the legacy of displacement in the Americas, seeking to bridge understanding and cultivate compassion. He celebrates the vibrancy of Mexican-American identity while critically engaging with national and cultural ideals. Examining the ongoing blending of Indigenous and European traditions within the Mexican diaspora, he draws connections between ancestral art forms and contemporary experiences, revealing a dialogue between conquest and resistance.

LA SONORA is a live latin@ music club and culture hub connecting the diaspora through sound and movement. The goal of LA SONORA is to create vibrant and dynamic spaces for latin@ culture to flourish. Our vision is to be a global platform and network by and for Latin@ culture bearers and culture seekers by developing, presenting and cultivating intergenerational artists while reconnecting people across the diaspora to their ancestral roots. We are a pro-Black, pro-Indigenous, pro-LGBTQ+, pro-mujer space that values culture, community, joy, and collaboration.
